A study group is the best thing you can do for any class you're struggling in, best if you can get together right after class.Įven if you're failing now, stay in it and learn as much as you can, try your hardest to improve. Don't be afraid to do the same problems over again. Try and spread out your studying into a few smaller sessions per week rather than one 8 hour block. Before these course changes, Calculus 1 failure rates at CSU Los Angeles were above 40 in 2018 and then improved in 2020, falling to 17 last summer. I mostly learned by reading examples from the book right before doing the homework. I didn't really know about all the resources on YouTube then but people here can definitely show you where they are. I had a hard ass, very math-y professor who didn't believe in examples and we filled up notebooks with nothing but proofs. Ended up showing up late, forgot my note card, bombed it, and ended up with a B.Īnyway, how to pass it? Study your ass off, I guess. I needed like a 70 on the final to keep my A in Calc 3 and I slept through my alarm. But the two I did were A's and I was good on hw. I probably would have done C-level on the one I missed too. He ended up dropping the one I missed and dropping my lowest, which was a C. His syllabus allowed for one dropped exam out of four, so I figured fuck it, I guess I'm using my drop. I had a field trip for a geology course on the day of one of the midterms, gave the professor 4 weeks notice and emailed him like 6 times, and he never arranged a time for me to take it.
